Lancaster County has grown considerably over the last decade, but we at the Lancaster County Planning Commission recognize that there's always room to grow further. Take, for instance, the county's ever-expanding system of trails, which continues to grow even further under our influence, enhancing the recreational experiences of county residents. We specialize in organizing initiatives and placemaking, the latter of which has been responsible for preserving wildlife and nature over the years.
Lancaster, the unique locale that it is, necessitates a unique blend of urban and rural planning. Our expert staff works with outstanding members of the community to implement both short and long term plans for the county. Transport plans, a downtown for Millersville, and a Susquehanna conservation initiative are among the many projects that received attention last year.
Perhaps one of the most dynamic projects that we are currently undertaking is places2040, a massive placemaking initiative focused on making the county more scenic and livable. With the help of volunteers, we hope to draw up a plan for this project by 2017 while learning what the public wants from their community—after all, we're here to serve them!
