    Fresh Face: Anita’s On Walnut

“We just love people. We love listening and we love sharing. We know we’re here for a reason and we’re grateful to be here.”

Anita Skrocki has been successfully making and selling biscotti out of Reading for over a decade but recently, she and her husband Bob felt the tug to start making something more. As they tossed ideas around with their family, the cafe that now warms 324 East Walnut Street went from a pipedream to a reality and Anita’s on Walnut opened its doors to customers.

As obstacles melted away and things fell into place, Anita and Bob knew that this venture was meant to provide Lancaster with more than a delicious retail bakery and cozy cafe, but also with a place to land, a place to be seen and welcomed, and to belong. With their faith as a compass, their love for people as motivation, and their deep Italian roots, Anita’s entices people to stop in for more than just their mouthwatering pastries.

Anita’s on Walnut not only aspires to offer the community a delicious place to eat and a quiet moment to sip coffee but also an opportunity to connect, recharge, and be reminded that they matter. With an ever-changing menu, Anita’s is open Monday—Saturday for breakfast and lunch, and offers a variety of sandwiches, soups, and pastry. Already, each customer, contractor, employee, and vendor have left an imprint on the cafe. Anita and Bob point at fixtures and facets of the cafe and lovingly recount the story of how it came to be and why it’s important.

They’re excited about connecting with and encouraging everyone who walks through their doors and are humbled to be part of revitalizing and positively impacting their neighborhood. “We just love people. We love listening and we love sharing. We know we’re here for a reason and we’re grateful to be here.”
