Simon Lever is celebrating 70 years of serving Lancaster

The CPA and business advisory firm Simon Lever celebrated an impressive milestone in 2021—70 years of serving the Lancaster community! When the company’s namesake opened his office on South Queen Street in 1951, the average cost of a new home was $9,000, and the average annual salary was $3,510. Clearly, a lot has changed since then, but one thing has remained constant—Simon Lever’s commitment to maximizing the success of those they partner with.

Simon Lever provides tax, advisory, and auditing and accounting services to businesses and individuals throughout Central PA. The firm serves a diverse range of clients—from startups to third-generation family companies, from nonprofits to manufacturers, and everything in between—with industry experts in agriculture, construction, and other fields.

While most think of CPA firms as being focused mainly on tax season, Simon Lever stays busy year-round with their holistic approach to serving clients. They see themselves as trusted advisors first, and accountants second. As a financial advantage firm, not simply an accounting firm.

CEO and Managing Partner Jason McDougall says, “We connect with and serve our clients throughout the entire year. We get to know them by listening to their needs and goals, then build a collaborative relationship based on mutual trust. This allows us to deliver sound advice year-round so they can focus on their core business and build for the future.”

For instance, Simon Lever advisors can help a client navigate a complex situation like business succession, both the financial and sometimes sensitive emotional sides. They might visit a client’s business to identify tax breaks or opportunities for growth. Trust, gift, and estate planning can help clients feel secure in planning for the future. So while taking care of taxes is important, the firm provides many other services to guide clients on their financial journeys, whatever they may be.

Mentoring clients is just one approach Simon Lever takes to serving the community—a vital part of the firm’s culture. They believe that when one business or individual prospers, the wider community prospers too.

By partnering with the High Center and the Lancaster and Northern Lancaster County Chambers of Commerce, Simon Lever builds and maintains strong ties to local business. They also maintain a team dedicated to working with nonprofits, providing services like audits, reviews, and bookkeeping so these organizations can focus on making a difference in the lives of others.

Simon Lever team members also take a personal approach to serving the community. “Coaching youth sports teams, hands-on help at nonprofits, serving on boards—team members use their personal passions to give back in a variety of ways,” says Taura Thompson, Director of Human Resources. “It’s an awesome way for them to connect to our values of Passion and Service.”

For 70 years, Simon Lever has been proud to help clients maximize their success by providing advice when it matters most—and they plan to do it for at least 70 years more.
