My least favorite part of the summer is the break in theater. Granted, the theaters need it. It gives them a time to rejuvenate and prepare for another season. I, on the other hand, impatiently wait for the first opening night.
Fulton has a fantastic 2017/2018 season planned for their audiences. No matter what your theater preference may be, Fulton will have several shows you will be interested in. From giant performances to intimate to shows for the entire family, this lineup is sure to please.
Following the solar eclipse, the only way to begin a Mainstage series is with Little Shop of Horrors. A comedy thriller about a man who buys an exotic plant after a solar eclipse that brings fame, fortune, and murder to the small flower shop on Skid Row.
If a singing plant doesn’t entertain you, Ralphie will be sure to get you into the Christmas spirit in A Christmas Story The Musical. The triple-dog-dare flag pole incident, the worst Christmas present ever (pink bunny pajamas), and the FRA-GEE-LAY top prize (leg lamp) will surely have you laughing the entire show.
To keep you on your toes for the New Year, enjoy Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap; a 1950s murder mystery that will keep you guessing on who the murderer truly is. At this point in the season, you should be hungry for singing and dancing. Fulton will more than satisfy with Guys and Dolls and Million Dollar Quartet. Guys and Dolls will bring Broadway and Sinatra to Lancaster. You’ll be dancing in your seat. Million Dollar Quartet will take you from crooner to Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. To finish the Mainstage series with a bang, Fulton will bring you Hunchback of Notre Dame. A spectacular show with a cast of 56!
In its third year, the Ellen Arnold Groff Studio series brings the same level of performance as the Mainstage series to intimate theater. The 2017/2018 season begins in England with Sleuth, a Tony Award-winning “whodunit” often referred to as one of the greatest stage thrillers about a writer who invites his wife’s lover and adversary to his English home for the deal of a lifetime. From there, you will be taken to an Irish pub to learn about The Irish and How They Got That Way. Have a pint and learn about Irish history with best way the Irish know how to reminisce in pub tunes. Instead of transporting you to a location, Blackbird will take you to intense emotions years after a forbidden relationship. Finally, Red will take you through tragedy, ecstasy, and doom expressed in the artwork of famed abstract painter Mark Rothko.
Rounding out the season is the Eichmann Family Series. Great theater helps parents make their children’s dreams a reality. There is nothing quite like a child seeing their favorite character in real-life performing for them. First, the Nutcracker brings a Christmas classic alive. Next, the Three Little Pigs is a new version of the classic story full of catchy songs, clever rhymes, and silly charm, but also has some very smart things to say about home and family. Whimsy and life lessons are told through the imaginitive musical The Emperor’s New Clothes. Finishing up the series is Aladdin. It will ignite your child’s imagination with foreign lands, genies, and wishes.
I am excited to see all of the details and beauty the Fulton will surely bring us this season. You will not want to miss the Fulton’s 2017-2018 season.
