Inspire Series: Danielle Keeton, Bo Peep’s Bonnets

WHERE DID THE IDEA FOR BO PEEP’S BONNETS COME FROM?

When my mom started chemo treatments for ovarian cancer in 2012, I found myself scouring the web trying to find fashionable knit hats to keep her warm. That’s when it dawned on me to take my love of knitting to the next level! I would sell my hats on Etsy and use the profits to fund a hat charity for cancer patients. And voila! Bo Peep’s Bonnets was born! Now we offer knits for all ages, as well as original knitting patterns, (etsy.com/shop/BoPeepsBonnets), and anyone with cancer can request a free hat on our website at BoPeepsBonnets.com.

    WHAT INSPIRES YOUR DESIGNS?

My cats! It may sound like I’m a crazy cat lady, but so many wonderful opportunities have stemmed from the cat-inspired products I’ve designed. My cat hats have been featured on the Today Show, in runway shows, and in the Disney movie “Bad Hair Day.”

    HOW DO YOU ACHIEVE BALANCE?

I think the key to achieving balance is being adaptable. Somedays I work 12 hours so that the next day I only need to work four. That’s the wonderful thing about working from home—you can make it work for you.

    WHAT’S YOUR BEST BUSINESS ADVICE?

People are your best resources. Give the kindest, most sincere, and thankful customer service possible in every circumstance. Truly treat your customers better than you would want to be treated. They chose to shop with you over so many other vendors—that’s amazing! I am overwhelmingly thankful for each and every customer, and it is my sincere honor to knit for anyone facing cancer. I believe in the power of prayer and healing. I’ve seen it. I’ve had it happen to me. I hope that whether you purchase a hat or receive one as a donation, that you feel the love and thankfulness from my hands to your head.
