Horizons at LCDS helps School District of Lancaster students thrive

This summer, Horizons at Lancaster Country Day School will work with 135 students in kindergarten through eighth grade through its summer learning program, setting them up to thrive when the new school year begins.

Working with partner schools in the School District of Lancaster, Horizons at LCDS recruits students after their kindergarten year and invites those same students back to the program—filled with hands-on academics, enrichment in the arts, field trips, and swimming lessons—each summer through eighth grade.

“Inequities built into the educational system, like the uneven distribution of resources, create barriers for some students to access the knowledge and skills every student needs to be prepared for life after high school,” said Executive Director Rebecca Fowler.

Horizons’ whole-child teaching model and long-term approach to partnering with students, families, schools, and communities set it apart from other out-of-school learning providers—and it works. One hundred percent of Horizons students make gains in reading and math over each summer.

Lancaster Country Day School donates the use of its campus—classrooms, recreation space, and technology resources—and all other aspects of the program are 100% donor-supported.
