World’s Only Rhubarb Race Car Derby Revs Up Kitchen Kettle Village’s 39th Annual Rhubarb Festival

Racing derby cars made out of rhubarb stalks is just one of the highlights of the annual Kitchen Kettle Village Rhubarb Festival returning this year on May 19 & 20.

The Village is the only place in the world where guests can create their own rhubarb derby car and race it for a possible cash prize.

This year’s two day festival features the derby along with the crowning of an official Rhubarb King and Queen, the Rollicking Rhubarb Stroll, a Rhubarb Baking Contest benefitting the Lancaster Farmland Trust, cheese stretching, a Pretzel Twisting Contest, lots of samples, delicious and creative rhubarb foods in all the eateries to purchase, strolling comedians, several bands including The Roof Rockers, Summit Hill Bluegrass Band, Nick DiSanto-The One Man Band and more, as well as other activities for the whole family.

You won’t want to miss the Best Rhubarb Dessert in Lancaster County Baking Contest on Saturday morning. After the competition by 11AM, the entries will be sold by the slice to the public with all proceeds benefitting the Lancaster Farmland Trust. Guests can also learn more about the Lancaster Farmland Trust who will be present in the Village both days. Bakers are needed for this fun & delicious event!

“Rhubarb is the harbinger of spring in Lancaster County, and we’ve been celebrating rhubarb for over 30 years,” said Lisa Horn, Director of Fun. “I love this time of year when our village comes alive with the sweet aroma of rhubarb jam bubbling in our kettles.”
