Save the date for the return of the Berks County Wine Trail’s Wine and Cheese Weekends! For four days this month, October 7 & 8 and October 14 & 15, the 11 Pennsylvania Wine Association wineries on the trail will be hosting ticketed guests with live music, specialty flights, and most importantly, wine and cheese pairings.

Dan Brown is the Treasurer of the Berks County Wine Trail and the owner of Deerfoot Winery, which is on the trail, and he shared a little about what makes this event especially exciting for trailgoers.

“When I was growing up, my winery was a dairy farm, so it’s really fun for me to be able to feature our wines alongside some amazing cheeses. t’s a perfect way to connect our past and the future here at Deerfoot,” Dan said. “The wineries usually pull out all the stops for this event since it’s fall, and people love to get out. We have food trucks and music at several of the locations, and Deerfoot is even doing ice cream flights on the October 14 with our friends at the Great American Creamery.”

The Berks County Wine Trail is a unique collection of Pennsylvania wineries—all of which are locally-owned by the winemakers themselves, including Deerfoot Winery and the newest addition to the trail Bouchette Vineyards. The winemakers are excited to open their doors each day from 12–5PM to celebrate Pennsylvania Wine Month that runs all of October. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 onsite and get you free pairings at all 11 locations for all four days.

“We really do have some great wines coming out of the Lehigh Valley AVA and Berks County especially. Most of the trail wineries are very small so you’ll never see their wines in the state store, but that’s what makes it so exciting to go out and taste what the trail members are doing. Every year is something new!” Dan said.

Just a short drive from Lancaster, these weekends are worth the trip to sample homegrown wines coming from right here in Central Pennsylvania. Get tickets and information on each day of the event here.
