Armstrong World Industries is investing in employee wellness

Armstrong World Industries' Wellness Committee and onsite dining are two ways they are making a difference.

For more than 160 years, Armstrong World Industries has been dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people where they live, work, learn, heal, and play—including for their own employees.

Their supportive culture recognizes each person as a key player in Armstrong’s legacy and future. That’s why they are continually investing in the wellness of their collaborative team.

When Noel Critchlow, Project Manager—Total Rewards at Armstrong World Industries (AWI), was approached to lead the reinstitution of the Wellness Committee, one of the first things he did was organize a team of employees who are passionate about investing in wellness at AWI across all of their campuses.

Now with volunteer members from across the Lancaster campus as well as the Georgia and Florida plants and remote employees, the committee is focused on improving the lives of all AWI employees through three pillars: Physical, Mental, and Financial Well-being.

“We want to provide learning opportunities as well as tools to address the challenges we all face,” Noel shared. “We fully believe that a good wellness program will help folks be happier in their personal and work lives.”

From monthly webinars and bimonthly newsletters to interactive competitions and a yearly Wellness Fair, there is no shortage of opportunities to get involved in the programming Noel and his team are providing.

Armstrong World Industries’ commitment to employee health extends to the dining experiences offered on the Lancaster campus, spearheaded by Executive Chef Chad Souders.

Elevated Onsite Dining

Chef Chad was born and raised in Lancaster, where his culinary journey began under the guidance of his mother and grandmother. They inspired a career spanning over 35 years. After studying at the Culinary Institute of America in upstate New York, Chad embarked on a career that took him across the country. He loved the time spent in Maine, where he met his wife and honed his skills as an executive chef at a seafood restaurant in Portland.

Eventually, Chad and his wife returned to Lancaster, where they now raise their young son, Matthew. Chad’s cooking preferences align with his diverse tastebuds—he enjoys preparing and eating a bit of everything and uses all of his experiences to craft elevated and healthy menus at AWI each week.

“Providing elevated catering makes people excited to come into the office,” Chad shared. “The dining area in our café provides a space where employees can mingle and have fun during the day while enjoying healthy meals.”
