Bidding for Good: The Hospice & Community Care Labor Day Auction
Don't miss this special two-day auction benefiting Hospice & Community Care.
This Labor Day weekend, bargain hunters, foodies, and community members alike will gather at the Solanco Fairgrounds for one of Lancaster County’s most beloved annual traditions: the Hospice & Community Care Labor Day Auction.
Taking place on September 5 and 7, 2026, this sprawling, multi-building event combines the excitement of live bidding with the comfort of local Amish-made food, all to support a mission that touches thousands of lives across Central Pennsylvania.

Bargains, Bids, and Big Finds
Supported entirely by donated items, the Labor Day Auction is a massive effort with over $1 million raised in previous years. The ‘fairgrounds’ campus transforms into simultaneous live auctions catering to every interest. In one building, attendees can bid on high-end art, handcrafted local furniture, luxury items, and heirloom quilts. In other areas, specialized auctions take place for sports memorabilia, plant displays, and even used cars.
Adding to the excitement is the annual Car Raffle. Attendees can enter for a chance to win a brand-new Chevy Trax by purchasing tickets online or in person at the auction (up to 14 tickets online, with additional purchases available by phone). The winning ticket will be drawn live on Monday, September 7 at 4:30PM (the winner does not need to be present to win).
Made From Scratch
Beyond the bidding, the event is a culinary destination in its own right. The local Amish community handles the food, preparing traditional favorites and fresh treats right onsite. Visitors can indulge in famous breakfast logs (eggs, bacon, and cheese wrapped in a warm, soft pretzel), alongside sizzling BBQ chicken and ribs, shrimp and fries, fresh fruit smoothies, creamy milkshakes, sweet whoopie pies, and freshly made donuts and apple fritters.

Bidding For A Bigger Purpose
Hospice & Community Care is a nonprofit organization serving 11 counties across Central Pennsylvania. Proceeds from the auction directly offset the cost of end-of-life care, ensuring that no individual is ever turned away regardless of their financial situation or insurance coverage.
Hospice care offers additional support including nursing, medication management, legal assistance with wills, and extensive grief counseling. Grief support services range from one-on-one sessions, support groups, and family counseling, to children’s programs like Coping Kids & Teens and a weekend grief camp. These services are open to anyone in the community.
As the team at Hospice & Community Care often reminds people, hospice isn’t about dying; it is about ensuring comfort, fulfilling dreams, and helping patients and families maintain the best possible quality of life. By attending the Labor Day Auction, community members can enjoy a memorable weekend while helping ensure that compassionate care remains available to everyone who needs it.
“Our Labor Day Auction is one of the best examples of what makes our community so special,” commented Michael Link, President & CEO, Hospice & Community Care. “Every year, we’re inspired by the generosity of individuals, businesses and community partners who come together with a shared commitment to caring for their neighbors. Their support helps ensure that everyone in our community has access to expert, compassionate hospice and palliative care and grief support, regardless of their financial means. It’s a powerful reminder that when a community comes together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of others.”
