Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet to present Alan Hineline’s “Giselle”
See it April 1 & 2 at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg
Founded in 1955, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet is known throughout the world for providing the finest in classical ballet training for children and young artists. The talented dancers and the entire team are excited to present Alan Hineline’s “Giselle” as their inaugural performance of 2023 on April 1 & 2 at the Whitaker Center—just a 45-minute drive from Lancaster. They invite you to learn more about this work and its significance to CPYB after the pandemic.
As the most celebrated ballet of all time, Alan Hineline’s Giselle is a piece you will remember forever. The ballet is a love story that transcends mortality, and the performance of it is filled with power and grace. The magic of seeing it all come together truly sticks with the audience long after they leave the theater.
Telling the story of a young woman in a small German village who falls in love with someone who is not who he seems, Giselle is a tale of love, betrayal, and forgiveness. Set to Adolph Adam’s exhilarating score, every element of Hineline’s Giselle—the choreography, lighting, sets, and costumes, and music—will draw you in.
Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet planned to present this powerful work in April 2020, but on March 13, rehearsals came to a sudden halt. Now, CPYB is honored to bring Giselle back to the stage at The Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg on Saturday, April 1 at 1PM and 5PM and Sunday, April 2 at 2PM.
As the brilliant dancers of Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet rehearse and prepare for these upcoming performances, they are anxious to return to the stage after years of theatre closures due to the pandemic. There is a surreal feeling of rebirth as the entire CPYB team revels in how beautiful ballet can be.
In these entrancing performances, the students of CPYB will shine as they bring the story of Giselle to life. The ballet is set in two acts, and is a true classical ballet that pushes dancers to the edge of their talents through choreography, acting, and musicality. Through a fierce dedication to their craft, CPYB’s dancers will fully immerse the audience into the world of Giselle.
Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet invites you to experience the moment with them. Tickets are on sale at cpyb.org/giselle.
