Discover something to delight you at Happy Happy Joy Joy

Owner Jean-Marie Merkle prioritizes happiness as she curates her shelves of whimsical finds.

Fresh Face

As a custom web developer and graphic designer, owning a business is nothing new for Jean-Marie Merkle. Space for abundant creativity, however, can sometimes be hard to find. At a time when she felt creatively restless, Jean-Marie started making digital art which triggered an idea for the retail shop of her dreams—one packed with bright, whimsical, and carefully curated items.

“Typically, when I get ideas that I’m really passionate about, I kind of just go for it,” Jean-Marie said. “The concept is about the curation of goods that make people happy.”

Her new store called Happy Happy Joy Joy is brimming with giftable finds celebrating “all that makes life colorful.”

In addition to selling pieces made by local and international creatives, Jean-Marie sells prints and stickers featuring her own artwork.

When she’s not stocking the shelves of her shop, she loves making each customer feel welcome and building relationships with regulars who frequent the shop. Whether spotlighting emerging artists, organizing pop-ups across Lancaster, or opening her store for special events, Jean-Marie hopes to leverage her retail space to bring the community together.

“It’s a tiny space, like 400 square feet, but there are a lot of things I can do by partnering with other artists and creatives,” she shared. “That is the base of my business—I want to be a part of the Lancaster community.”
