A Q&A with Mark Hershey

How does it feel to step into the role of CEO?

Mark: It’s both an incredible honor and a significant responsibility. Armstrong has built a remarkable legacy, and I have a deep appreciation for the leaders who shaped the company into what it is today. At the same time, I’m energized by the opportunities ahead of us. We have strong momentum, a talented team, and a clear strategy for growth—and I’m excited to help lead Armstrong into its next chapter.

What does your work at Armstrong mean to you?

Mark: What makes Armstrong special is the people. I’m incredibly proud to work alongside employees who care deeply about what they do and consistently bring passion, expertise, and commitment to our business. There’s a real sense of purpose in knowing what we do helps create better environments for people every day.

How would you describe your leadership style?

Mark: My leadership is built on being collaborative, transparent, and focused on creating long-term value. I believe the best outcomes happen when you bring together talented people, empower them to do their best work, and stay aligned around a clear strategy.

What part of Armstrong’s legacy makes you most proud?

Mark: What stands out most to me is Armstrong’s ability to evolve while staying grounded in the values that built this company. One phrase that has always resonated with me is our founder’s principle: “Let the Buyer Have Faith.” That idea has endured because it speaks to something timeless. It reflects how we’ve built lasting relationships with our customers and partners over generations.

I’m proud that Armstrong has continued to adapt to changing markets and customer needs while staying true to that foundation. That combination of resilience, innovation and trust is what makes our legacy so meaningful—and it’s what will continue to guide our future.

What innovations do you hope to see for Armstrong’s future?

Mark: I’m excited about the significant opportunity we have around energy efficiency and developing innovative solutions that help our customers reduce energy use while creating healthier, higher-performing, and more resource-conscious spaces.

We’re also continuing to expand our Architectural Specialties portfolio, to invest in digital capabilities, and to deliver tools that help our customers work more efficiently. At the end of the day, innovation is about staying ahead of what our customers need and ensuring Armstrong continues to lead the industry.
