Gifts That Give Hope: Reimagining Holiday Generosity in Lancaster

Transform your seasonal shopping into purpose with local nonprofit impact, ethically sourced goods, and curated Lancaster experiences

As the holiday season approaches, many of us face the familiar dilemma of finding meaningful presents for the people on our list—especially those who seem to have everything. Enter the Gifts That Give Hope Fair, a beloved local tradition since its debut in 2008, designed to transform seasonal shopping into a purposeful act of community care.

Free and open to the public, this year’s event takes place on October 10 from 10AM to 3PM, creating a unique space where attendees can connect with a diverse lineup of nonprofit organizations. Visitors have the opportunity to engage with team members, learn about each group’s mission, and make direct charitable contributions. All donors then receive a beautifully designed card that details the real-world impact of the contribution—making it a memorable gesture for any recipient.

Long-time participant of the Gifts That Give Hope Fair is local nonprofit, Aaron’s Acres. Risa Paskoff, Aaron’s Acres’ Executive Director shares:

“This event is one that brings people of all ages and nonprofit organizations together to network and learn about one another. Raising awareness of the good work that is being done locally, nationally, and globally is beneficial to all of us. Seeing families visit the tables with their children to ask questions and decide which organizations they wish to support is wonderful, as it empowers young people to learn about giving back by having them be a part of this opportunity.”

Beyond direct nonprofit support, the fair also features a lively marketplace filled with fair trade, ethically sourced, and sustainable goods. From handcrafted accessories to artisan home decor, it serves as a true one-stop shop for tangible items that make a difference in the lives of makers near and far.

To add to the fun, the fair offers two special ticketed experiences for visitors looking to deepen their event adventure:

  • The Taste of the Town Food Tour: Food lovers can purchase a ticket on the event website to experience food and beverages from a number of local Lancaster-based businesses.
  • The Global Adventures Tour: This passport-style ticket guides participants through 11 fair-trade stops across the market. Adventurers collect curated, ethically sourced items valued at over $70 total, making it a wonderful way to explore global craftsmanship while supporting fair-trade practices.

Whether you are looking to support local grassroots efforts, taste incredible local food, or find gifts that align with your personal values, the Gifts That Give Hope Fair captures the best of Lancaster’s generous spirit. It stands as a powerful reminder that when a community chooses to give back, the impact extends far beyond the season.
