One way they continue to build up their firm is by adding young talent to their team who align with their values of excellence, integrity, passion, responsibility, and service.
Madison Cole is one of those team members, now in her third year with the firm. Having recently been promoted to Senior Accountant, Madison started as an intern with Simon Lever during her undergraduate years at Messiah University. She was connected with the firm during a job fair hosted by the college, and although much of her internship was done virtually due to COVID-19, she says she got a good feel for the people at the firm because of this experience. “I could tell they cared about me more than just an employee or just an intern,” Madison shared. “They didn’t make me feel bad when I had questions. Everyone was so kind and welcoming.”

After the internship, Madison accepted a job there as a Staff Accountant, and she has been incredibly happy with the opportunities she’s had to grow her career. She explained, “One of the most rewarding aspects has been the availability of both internal and external training opportunities. Initially, much of the learning happened on the job, so having specialized training for the areas I’m focused on proved to be incredibly beneficial.”
Simon Lever also sets up new hires with a mentor who they meet with regularly for questions, trainings, and to talk about interest areas and career goals. “I still meet with my mentor every two weeks, and he helps me with decisions for my career pathing,” Madison said.
When it comes to the work Simon Lever does, the firm is focused on partnering with their clients and forming a relationship with each of them, Madison shared. “I love that part because I get to know the people I’m working with,” she said. “They’re good people, and I get to know their mission or their organization.”

Many of Simon Lever’s clients are family-owned and closely held businesses and nonprofits in Lancaster, and through their Community Impact Committee which Madison leads, Simon Lever is leaning into opportunities to serve their clients in a different way. Most recently, a group of 24 employees served at Blessings of Hope in Leola, Pennsylvania. “It’s great to do something that’s good for one of our clients outside of the accounting work,” she shared. “It was such a light-hearted event where people got to talk to others they didn’t know and to serve together.”
Volunteering on this committee and participating in these service opportunities has helped Madison stay connected to her team and the community, even with a recent move outside of the county. She says that Simon Lever’s flexibility for a hybrid work schedule allowed her to continue on with them even with a move to Scranton, Pennsylvania, for her husband to attend medical school. “It’s so nice to have that flexibility and for Simon Lever to work with me during this time, so I could keep my job with the firm, even with this temporary move,” Madison said.
With the workforce trending towards hybrid working models, she says Simon Lever does a great job at prioritizing ways for the team to stay connected—whether through the work of her committee, offering perks during the busy tax season, or facilitating local outings like trivia nights and sporting events that employees can attend.
