Keel Salon is redefining what luxury means in the beauty space

Navy veteran and owner Laura specializes in lived-in styles.

Fresh Face

Keel Salon is a veteran-owned hair salon providing laid-back luxury haircare in Lancaster City. A nod to owner Lauren’s experience in the Navy, the salon’s name is inspired by a keel—the backbone of a ship that provides structure, balance, and support.

“I want to be that to the community,” Lauren said. “I want to be a safe and comfortable space for clients, and a place for stylists to grow.”

The salon is a product of Lauren’s determination to find a new path after finishing her military service.

“I was a single mom when I left the Navy, and I didn’t really know what to do next so I did that personality test they give you in high school,” Lauren said, remembering how cosmetology was listed as one of the recommended career options. “I fell in love with the science of it, and then there is the artistry of it too. But the science really drew me in.”

At Keel Salon, Lauren brings her understanding of the art of hair care and the techniques she’s mastered to enhance her clients’ natural beauty.

“People need to feel beautiful for themselves, and I don’t think a cosmetic service should be what creates that for them,” Lauren said. “I want you to feel beautiful because of the connection and the conversation we had and because of your own doing.”

Specializing in low-maintenance hair care and lived-in styling, Keel Salon is redefining what luxury means in the beauty space.

“It’s not about how much money you spent on this service—it’s about what it gives you,” Lauren shared. “You can feel luxurious just by getting a good shampoo. You can feel luxurious just from getting a good blowout. You can be luxurious from just being told it’s okay to not be okay.”
