Founded in 1985, Lancaster Orthopedic Group (LOG) has built a legacy of bringing the latest surgical techniques to Lancaster County and the surrounding Pennsylvania communities. LOG surgeons were the first in the area to perform what was a groundbreaking procedure at the time—the minimally invasive total joint replacement surgery. Now they’ve further advanced the patient experience during joint replacement with the addition of robotics and their state of the art outpatient surgery center.

LOG patients benefit from comprehensive surgical and non-surgical care for degenerative conditions of the hip and knee. Thomas J. Renz, D.O., who has been with the practice since 1993 and now leads the Total Joint Replacement team, remains at the forefront of new surgical techniques and the latest technology.

“Twenty years ago, total joint replacement surgery meant several days or up to a week in a hospital followed by a lengthy rehabilitation process,” shared Dr. Renz. “Now, we project that as many as 85 percent of these procedures will be done as outpatient surgery.”

These outpatient procedures will now primarily take place at the new surgical center, providing a more simplified, seamless patient experience than in a hospital setting.

“Not only is the center state-of-the-art, we’re also very fortunate to have such an experienced staff, particularly in the operating room, that has really made the level of expertise at the center very high,” Dr. Renz added.

The success of these rapid recovery procedures is also largely dependent on LOG’s intentionality in prepping patients for surgery along with education and support for the post-operative process.

“A lot goes into preparing patients to be able to go home the same day as the surgery—from optimizing their medical conditions, preoperative education, and physical therapy—all ensuring patients have a support system for a quick, active recovery,” Dr. Renz shared.

For the entire LOG team, the focus of all they do is rooted in a passion for getting people back to doing the things they love. Learn more about the team and their unique approach at lancasterotho.com.
