New Name, Same Helping Hand
With an official new name, Lancaster County Food Hub is ready to unveil the next step in its future.
You may know them as LCCC or Lancaster County Council of Churches, but with a bold new name, a strong mission, and clear vision, Lancaster County Food Hub is ready to take the next step and further support their community!
Rooted in faith and compassion, the Food Hub provides services that honor the dignity of all by striving to meet basic human needs. During the past year, it became clear to them that their former name no longer best represented who they are to the people they serve or to the community at large. To better communicate their mission, they’ve officially changed their name to Lancaster County Food Hub—Serving with Faith and Compassion!
With the goal of being a key resource for the underserved, the Food Hub provides fresh and healthy food and free clothing distributions four days per week. Since their move to their current location at 812 N. Queen Street, they truly are a HUB for service!
The walls of their Food Bank are lined with an awe-inspiring amount of fresh produce, non-perishables, milk, and even a few baked items! Many donations come from big-name retailers such as WholeFoods, Wegmans, Target, Gobble, or local farms. Regardless of where they come from, any item that enters the Food Hub goes through a rigorous quality check. Food that is spoiled, expired, or does not meet the Food Hub’s standard, is discarded. Every individual or family receiving a food order leaves with an abundance of items that not only meets the immediate need of having enough food to eat but of equal importance supports overall health and well-being. As if that isn’t impressive enough, the Food Hub can also accommodate certain health restrictions for diabetics or those who follow a gluten-free diet.
Beyond providing healthy food, the Food Hub also offers the largest free Clothing Bank in our community. Thoughtfully stocked with items for men, women, and children as well as coats, maternity, scrubs and seasonal specialty items such as Halloween costumes, the clothing bank is ready to meet the need! All of these items are generously donated by our kind community.
The Food Hub’s programs don’t stop there. They are busy all year long providing other forms of support, such as their Winter Shelter program that offers a warm and safe place for homeless women to sleep during the colder months and the Wheels to Work program that makes low-cost vehicles available to individuals in the workforce without transportation.
It’s exciting to see all the wonderful new initiatives that are in the works at the Food Hub. In partnership with Lancaster General Hospital, they are now offering a food pharmacy in order to bring more health-focused programs to the community. The Food Hub believes food is medicine and this service will allow people to come in and meet with a registered dietician in order to provide them with the knowledge they can use to live a healthy life.
