Watch “Banned Together” at the 2024 Red Rose Film Festival

This feature-length documentary invites viewers to join the fight against book banning across America.

A diverse cast of visionary teenagers, stirring public protests, private threats, criminal charges, and drama-filled school board meetings—this is the world of Banned Together.

The first feature-length documentary about fighting the spread of book bans in the United States, Banned Together pulls back the curtain on book bans and curriculum censorship in public schools. It follows three students fighting to reinstate 97 books suddenly pulled from their school libraries while exploring the roots of the censorship movement and celebrating the courage and persistence of these next-generation activists. As they evolve from local to national activists, the film reveals the dark forces behind the accelerating wave of book bans in the U.S.

Banned Together was produced by a talented team of filmmakers and industry professional, several of whom have ties to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Lead producers Jenn and Tom Wiggin, lived in Lancaster for five years and executive producers Henrietta Heisler and Marilyn Stein are Lancaster-based business owners. The entire team is proud and honored to bring the film to this year’s Red Rose Film Festival for a screening on November 9. Jenn Wiggin will be hosting a Q&A at Penn Cinema directly following.

“This film shows us in intimate detail the powerful young voices who bravely speak up against not just book banning in public schools, but also the unfair, unbalanced power structures in school board politics. You will fall in love with them as young people navigating the world which says they have no voice and no rights. They say no to that, and they eloquently step into the challenge.”

– Viewer Testimonial

Banned Together just launched a national Impact Campaign to provide the film to public libraries, organizations, high schools, and universities around the country to host screenings over the next several months. These screenings are always completely free to the public and allow the conversation around book banning and censorship to continue—often with Q&A sessions with the creators and other professionals. Please consider supporting this Impact Campaign with a small donation—all funds go directly into supporting more and more screenings for public viewing.
