You don’t know Jack: A special Q&A with Water Street Mission
This special feature celebrates Jack Crowley, President of Water Street Mission, for 10 years of leadership.

Meet Jack Crowley
Where did you grow up, and what’s something unique about it?
I was born in Chicago but grew up in Media, Pennsylvania—known as “Everybody’s Hometown.” I have great memories of riding my bike for miles—through town, to stores, and even through a state park to get to my favorite deli.
Do you have any hidden talents or surprising skills?
I play guitar and lead worship at church (not so hidden). I can balance random things on my chin or forehead—bats, brooms, folding chairs —you name it. I also learned to solve a Rubik’s Cube, and my best time is 1:20!
What do people not know about your journey at WSM?
Over 30 years ago, I started as a youth camp counselor, but most people don’t know that I spent that first summer living with our male guests in the mission dorm.
If you could give one thing to every person experiencing homelessness, what would it be?
The hope of Christ is what we all need most (homeless or not). Beyond that, each person’s journey is so unique—there is no “one thing” that will guarantee success and sustainability—so I would love for each person to be surrounded by an array of supportive, loving relationships.
Core Mission
In response to Christ’s love, Water Street Mission joins with His mission to walk with neighbors who are experiencing marginalization and poverty, trusting Him to transform lives and restore hope.
