Artist Talk and Reception with Carla J. Fisher, Fiber Artist

Carla J. Fisher will be speaking about her process of creating art by sculpting two- and three-dimensional pieces of art with thread, recycled materials, and encaustic wax. Carla’s art is characterized by its innovative use of thread to create complex textures and shapes, often incorporating found objects to enhance her compositions. Her pieces invite a visceral response as viewers realize the sculpted material is merely thread. This element of surprise underscores her belief in the seemingly impossible feats can be achieved with even the most modest elements, much like her own journey of self-reinvention.
Fisher’s work has received international acclaim, including the Leonardo DaVinci International Prize for Contemporary Art and the UNESCO International Women in Art award. Her work has been exhibited in numerous prestigious shows, including Art Basel in Miami; ArtExpo in NYC; MUSA International Women’s Essence Show at Palazzo Velli Expo in Rome, Italy; and the International Embroidery Museum in Chung Yung Yang, Korea, to name a few. As an inaugural artist at the Cherry Street Pier in Philadelphia, and founder of ArtWorks in Oriental, North Carolina, Fisher has made a name for herself within the Fiber Arts world in her short artistic career.
