Open House at Historic Renovated House
November 1 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
This landmark house is one of the best-known 1-1/2 story houses in Lancaster. Located at the corner of Water and Grant street, behind the Ware Center, many have watched it come alive again.
Lori Murphy, with deep appreciation for historic architecture, has painstakingly restored this building and would like to share it with the public during this open house. November 1, from 5:00-7:00.
Visitors can walk through the first floor of one of the few houses that has not gone through a renovation, but has gone through an enormous restoration. Care has been given so that anything in the house that was original has stayed original.
During the time period in which this house was built, many couldn’t read. To give a reference point, businesses were often identified by their sign. For instance, one very well known signs in Lancaster was the Grape Hotel, identified by a cluster of grapes. In keeping with this tradition, the Little Haus is located at the sign of the Tulip, with a hand-painted sign hanging from it’s gable.
Lori has worked with with local historians and preservation experts to ensure that this little city gem has been restored with integrity.
“This house is a survivor that should be shared with all who care about preserving the stories of our city that are visible in our architecture.”
