PDF@Zoetropolis: There Will Be Blood

March 19 @ 6:15 pm 9:30 pm

America at 250: Oil, Ambition, and the American Dream Join us at Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse for the next installment in our America 250 film series with a screening of There Will Be Blood, the unforgettable epic from director Paul Thomas Anderson, featuring a towering, Academy Award–winning performance by Daniel Day-Lewis. Set in the early days of the California oil boom, There Will Be Blood follows the rise of Daniel Plainview, a fiercely driven prospector whose ambition and rivalry transform both the land and the communities around him. What begins as a story about opportunity and industry gradually becomes something darker: a meditation on power, faith, family, and the costs of relentless individualism. As part of our America 250 series, this film invites us to reflect on another American origin story. If the frontier myth tells a story of settlement and the nation’s coastal communities tell a story of memory and inheritance, There Will Be Blood confronts us with a third possibility: an America shaped by extraction, competition, and the pursuit of wealth. Before the screening, there will be a brief introduction, and afterward we’ll gather for a conversation about the film’s themes—including the myths of the self-made man, the uneasy relationship between capitalism and religion, and the question of what kind of community the American dream ultimately creates. 🍸 Our featured cocktail for the evening: “The Bowling Alley” Made with Lancaster Distilleries Bourbon, maple syrup, and house-made walnut bitters. 📍 Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse 🎥 Film screening + discussion 🇺🇸 Part of our America at 250 series exploring the myths and realities of the American story Come early, grab a drink, and join us for a night of cinema and conversation.
