Philosophy-Drink-Film at Zoetropolis: America 250 Film Series
January 15 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse is proud to present “Still Becoming: Cinema & the American Experiment,” a twelve-month film series examining American identity as the nation marks its 250th anniversary. Running January through December 2026, the series offers monthly screenings followed by facilitated discussions exploring who we’ve been, who we are, and who we might still become. “As America reaches 250 years, we have an opportunity—and a responsibility—to look honestly at ourselves through the art form that best captures our complexities and contradictions,” says Dennis Weiss, curator and presenter of the long-running “Philosophy|Drinks|Film Series” at Zoetropolis Cinema. “This isn’t celebration or condemnation, but examination. These twelve films ask hard questions about American mythology, community, identity, and possibility.” The series showcases remarkable diversity in form and perspective: from classic Hollywood to contemporary independent cinema, from Westerns to science fiction, from intimate character studies to ambitious ensemble pieces. Directors include both canonical figures (John Ford, Billy Wilder, Frank Capra) and essential voices historically marginalized by the film industry (Julie Dash, Barry Jenkins, Lee Isaac Chung).
