Philosophy | Drink | Film at Zoetropolis: Moonlight
August 20 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

PDF@Zoetropolis presents Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight. The next film in our America 250 series—and the second in our three-film exploration of Reinvention and Transformation.
Told across three defining periods in one life, Moonlight follows Chiron as he grows up in Miami and struggles with the names others give him, the expectations of masculinity, and his longing to be known. Visually breathtaking and deeply humane, the film explores identity, race, sexuality, vulnerability, and the rare moments of tenderness that make another way of living possible. America celebrates the self-made individual—but who is truly free to reinvent themselves? And what happens when the identity we construct to survive becomes a form of armor?
Join us for a brief pre-screening presentation, the film, and a thoughtful post-screening conversation. No background in philosophy is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to look closely. 🍸 Our featured cocktail will be the Moonlight Martini: Lancaster Distilleries charcoal-filtered vodka, fresh lime, and a touch of sweetness, finished with a purple sea-salt crescent.
