Philosophy, Drinks, and Film: John Huston’s The Dead

December 18 @ 6:30 pm 9:30 pm

PDF closes the year with John Huston’s final film, The Dead—a luminous adaptation of James Joyce’s masterpiece and a perfect reflection for the holiday season. Set on the Feast of the Epiphany, or Little Christmas, in 1904 Dublin, the film unfolds during a winter evening of song, food, and conversation hosted by two elderly sisters. Beneath the warmth of the gathering, however, lie memories of love, loss, and the quiet awareness of our shared mortality. Made as Huston himself was nearing the end of his life, The Dead is at once intimate and transcendent—a meditation on art, memory, and revelation. It’s a film about listening, about how the past lingers in song, and about the snow that falls “upon all the living and the dead.” Join us for this final PDF screening of the year—a seasonal evening of reflection, conversation, and a specially crafted Lancaster Distilleries cocktail.
