Tennessee Williams’ 1944 play tells the story of Amanda Wingfield, who lives in a dingy St. Louis apartment with her son, Tom, and handicapped daughter, Laura. Focused on their future but shattered by abandonment, Amanda collides with her children’s dreams, as Tom feels trapped and Laura struggles. When Tom’s friend visits, the thread that connects dignity and desperation is pulled taut. Premiered 80-plus years ago, “The Glass Menagerie” returned to Broadway seven times.
