A Sweet Success: WITF’s Star Baker Award Event Recap

We were excited to be part of the first-ever Star Baker Awards by WITF hosted at Willow Valley Communities.

As a judge, I got the inside scoop (pun intended) on all the delicious flavors from 29 different Pennsylvania cooks. As an avid foodie, a lover of all-things-sugar, and writer of Fig Table, I happily accepted the invite to be part of a great group of judges that included Cedric Barberet, Owner & Partner of Bistro Barberet & Bakery, Sharon Landis, Owner of Zest!, Michael Long, Editor & Former Food Writer of LNP & LancasterOnline.com, Kristen Richards, Head Baker and Pastry Chef at The Pressroom Restaurant, and Shelley Cohen Hershey of WITF. I’d say we were a rockstar crew!

We had to judge the Savory Showstopper, the Sweet Showstopper, the Savory Signature, and the Sweet Signature. The guests, over 280, chose the People’s Choice Star Baker.

Based on the hit PBS show The Great British Baking Show, the event featured an assortment of fantastic foods from sweet to savory. The debut episode from an upcoming season of the show was featured in a special preview screening at the end of the tasting. Awards soon followed.

I was super pumped to try all the options. All of the bakers were fantastic!
