Why You’ll Love Calling All Kates

Since 2010, Prima Theatre has been providing the Downtown Lancaster scene with groundbreaking musicals, concerts, and special events. For the past decade, it’s been their mission “to invigorate lives through fresh theatrical experiences.” Whether it’s in the musicals chosen, the directors brought in, or the actors they handpick—Prima’s pursuit is clearly focused on curation, beauty, and excellence. Calling All Kates, Prima’s latest production is no exception.

To provide the audience members with a unique musical experience, Prima brought in Nathan Mittleman, a Chicago-based actor, director, choreographer, and performer to direct the show. Nathan has worked with impressive organizations including the Paramount Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Drury Lane Theatre, and many more. He specifically has experience with Calling All Kates, as he choreographed it at the Adirondack Theatre Festival. We had the opportunity to chat with this theatrical impresario and hear a little more about the show. Check out our top 3 reasons why it’s a must-see after our conversation with Nathan!

    1. It’s always a good idea to try something new!

Nathan shared that this is one of the first few performances of Calling All Kates! This brand NEW musical comedy originated in Indiana and then made its way to a new world festival in the Adirondack Mountains. Now, Lancaster is proud to host this fresh, exciting venture.

Calling All Kates tells the story of Mark, who’s ex-fiance left him just before their wedding with a broken heart and a nonrefundable honeymoon trip around the world. With no time to waste, Mark chooses to find someone with the same name as his fiance in order to head out on this globetrotting adventure. At its core, Calling All Kates is the story of two individuals who discover not only each other but themselves.

“When I met Lindsay Webster (who plays Kate), the way she talked and acted…she was Kate! She was quirky, cute, and affirmed for me that she was perfect for the role.” – Nathan, Director of Calling All Kates

One of Nathan’s favorite attributes of the production is the wide variety of music. With a mix of pop-rock, contemporary, funk, and even some country twang, Calling All Kates has something for every music lover.

    2. This show is “A vacation from meanness”!

This new show is funny, contemporary, and feels like a giant warm hug in musical form. One reviewer even described it as, “A vacation from meanness.”

“Calling All Kates features great music and heart which gives the audience the opportunity to escape the real world, relax, laugh, and just spend a great night out while forgetting about their own worries.” – Nathan, Director of Calling All Kates

    3. Prima never disappoints!

Life is too short to be bland! Prima is a firm believer in this sentiment and knows as Lancaster’s newest theatre that creating experiences that are fresh and invigorating is just what the community needs. Much of Prima’s loyal patron base is decades younger than the national average for theatre-goers, which gives them the opportunity to really challenge what “a night at the theatre” really means. With free parking, luxury seating, an on-site bar, and state-of-the-art audio & lighting, Prima Theatre is always on the top of our list for an exciting night out.
