Tall Pines Distillery’s new location brings moonshine and more to Lancaster County

Tall Pines Distillery makes 100% natural, gluten-free, glass-to-grain moonshine, whiskey, brandy, and rum.

Keith Welch was a successful contractor in Southern Somerset County, Pennsylvania for 40 years, and as he began looking at retiring from such a labor-intensive job—he dreamed about creating something he could pass down to his sons and leave an impact on the area where he raised them.

A long-time moonshine enthusiast, Keith began experimenting with recipes that would honor the rich history of moonshine in the mountains of Salisbury, and in 2016, Tall Pines Distillery was born.

The first legal moonshine distillery in the county since prohibition, Tall Pines prides itself on producing 100% natural, gluten-free, grain-to-glass spirits—which has expanded to also include bourbon, brandy, and rum.

“I want to create something different than the mainstream,” Ketih said. “We’re very picky with our recipes. It sometimes takes up to 25+ times to get it exactly right.” Keith’s passion for his products can be found in every sip.

As he began looking to expand across Pennsylvania, Keith settled on Mountville, Pennsylvania, with the hopes to draw new customers and fans of Tall Pines in from both Lancaster and Columbia. With Keith’s longtime friend, Tim Kinneer, and Bobby [name] in place to manage the new location, Tall Pines Tasting Room has already created a buzz since its early September opening.

“We really wanted to make it a cool atmosphere where everyone is welcome,” Tim shared.

Their spirit menu is available for ½ ounce tastings, and they also serve cocktails, moonshine or brandy slushies, and a selection of Pennsylvania-made beer and wine, so there is truly something for every palate. Pair your pick with some classic dishes from their new menu, including flatbreads, wings, and paninis.

Their team invites you to warm up this winter with a glass of something great as you watch a game or relax with friends, and on your way home, grab a few bottles of your favorites from their bottle shop.
