Feature filmmaking is on the rise in Lancaster thanks to a collection of talented filmmakers and companies who are telling captivating stories and bringing scripts and brands to life from behind the lens.

Meet a few of them in this special feature, as Lancaster prepares for the 2024 Red Rose Film Festival coming November 8–10.

Sight & Sound Films

Premiering in 2026, “A Great Awakening” is the sophomore production from Sight & Sound Films. “A Great Awakening” tells the true story of George Whitefield, known as the Spiritual Founding Father for The Great Awakening, which lasted from 1739 to 1770. In an amazing twist of history, one of Whitefield’s closest friends during this time was none other than Benjamin Franklin, a “thorough deist” who became Whitefield’s greatest promoter. The film begins and ends during the chaotic Constitutional Convention of 1787. The disunity amongst the delegates drives Franklin to reflect on his complex faith journey, leading Franklin to deliver a prophetic message during one of the darkest times in the nation’s story.

MAKE/

MAKE/FILMS produced “Brave the Dark” with Inspiring films, in association with Triode Media. This film is a powerful portrayal of the transformation of a 1980s small town teacher, Stan Deen, played by Jared Harris, as he is drawn into the mysterious past of a student, Nate, played by Nicholas Hamilton, suddenly arrested outside his classroom. Based on a true story in New Holland, Pennsylvania, “Brave the Dark” tells a narrative of overcoming challenges and believing in goodness again. Coming to the big screen near you in 2025.

reverie

In 2024, reverie hired award-winning producer and journalist Sarah McClure, who is leading the development of their documentary and docu-style branded content. The latest of this work is an upcoming feature documentary, “Keep Quiet and Forgive,” which chronicles the journey of a formerly Amish woman who breaks a deeply entrenched silence about sexual abuse, igniting an unprecedented movement across Amish communities nationwide. The film will air on PBS.
