Lemon Street Market celebrates 11 years in Lancaster

Founded in 2011, Lemon Street Market is a women-owned independent grocery store on the west side of Lancaster. Along with supplying Lancaster with local grocery items, the market also has a kitchen serving up made to order drinks and stocking the convenient take out fridge.

The market gives special focus on locally and regionally grown and produced items, working with over 150 local vendors and farmers in effort to support the local economy by featuring their products. Giving preference to items that are non GMO, chemical free, fair-trade, and sustainable, Lemon Street Market is a curated, planet-loving environment.

“One way that Lemon Street Market contributes to the community is by supporting local farmers and makers,” owner Trish Haverstick said. “We also support local organizations through our #GiveLocal partnerships—when customers round up at the register, their spare change helps to create change in our community.”

From inventory decisions to business practices, Lemon Street Market is a mission-driven business that seeks to make a positive impact in the Lancaster community. In 2017, Lemon Street Market launched this #GiveLocal program which has gone on to benefit over 35 organizations in the community. In 2021 alone, the program raised $17,747 in donations for community organizations. 

As an independent grocery store driven by a commitment to mindful practices, Lemon Street Market goes above and beyond what most grocery stores do. They make this happen by recycling materials, choosing biodegradable packaging whenever possible, offering imperfect items at a deep discount, and composting. Lemon Street Market also offers products that allow their customers to adopt sustainable practices as well. One way they do this is through their bulk food section, where customers can refill their own containers rather than purchasing items with company packaging.
