Local Visionary – Mayor Danene Sorace

Learn why Mayor Sorace thinks Lancaster is a special place

Introducing you to the people and places that make Lancaster special is our mission. In the spring edition of Fig, you met some of our friends who are forging new paths and are selflessly committed to our community. Now, more than ever, we want to show our appreciation.
Our first feature is Mayor Sorace. She is tirelessly committed to our residents and businesses during this crisis.

“Whether you have lived on the same Lancaster City street for your entire life, or are a newcomer to Lancaster, you get that Lancaster is a special place. It is small enough to build community quickly and big enough that every day you can meet someone new. It’s the people that make Lancaster special.”

“I ran for Mayor in 2017 in part to demonstrate that we could do politics differently. We could have real discourse without demeaning one another. We could solve problems and improve the lives of our residents. We could be responsible stewards of our children’s futures. I believe we are doing these things—working together as a team to ensure that our local government is operating with integrity and respect to deliver quality services that our community relies on every day.”

"My Passion Project? Spending time with our City’s youth—attending my daughter’s school events, reading to students at SDoL, hanging out with kids at the Boys & Girls Club and in neighborhoods across the City."

“In 2020, we continue our work building a stronger and more equitable Lancaster block by block, by focusing on Strong Neighborhoods, Safe Streets, Secure Incomes, and Sound Government. A few highlights: we are launching a $11.1 million investment to eliminate lead poisoning in our city, which will focus on properties located south of King Street. We are using data to inform our decisions like never before. And we are working diligently to advocate for equitable, sustainable funding to keep our city thriving for decades to come.”
