Artistic Anchors are the educational institutions in the City of Lancaster that provide a creative foundation for new ideas and innovation to thrive. Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, the Ware Center at Millersville University, the Phillips Museum at Franklin & Marshall College, and The Trust at Lancaster Bible College all offer ways for the community to engage and broaden perspectives through exhibits, continuing education, and performance. We are honored to have these institutions helping to impact our City for the better.

- What: Käthe Kollwitz: Bauernkrieg/Peasant War – Gallery Talk by Phillip Earenfight, Dickinson College’s Director of the Trout Gallery and Associate Professor of Art and Art History
- When: Thursday, November 15 at 5pm
- Tickets: This event does not require tickets. It is free and open to the public.
- About: From 1903 to 1908, Käthe Kollwitz created plates for Bauernkrieg/Peasant War, a series of etchings that represents the brutal treatment of peasants in 16th-century Germany, their rise to revolution and battle, and their subsequent humiliation and death. Although based on historic events, she used this series as a vehicle to criticize and protest the anticipated tragedies that unfolded across Europe during the first half of the 20th century.

- About: Mini tours during which museum staff and guest “stars” such as F&M faculty, among others, will highlight three objects on view in the Nissley Gallery.

- What: Piano Festival
- When: Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10
- Tickets: $50
- About: Participate in Lancaster Bible College’s first ever Piano Festival, featuring private study with LBC piano faculty, special topic workshops, and a masterclass by The 5 Browns. Registration includes overnight accommodations, lunch and dinner on Friday, ice cream social, Saturday continental breakfast, and one ticket to The 5 Browns concert Friday evening. Festival fee will be refunded for students who have already applied to Lancaster Bible College. - About: One of the most famous classical crossover ensembles in the world, The 5 Browns have appeared from media outlets ranging from The Tonight Show, Good Morning America, The Today Show, and The View, to CNN, Fox and Friends, Public Radio’s Performance Today, as well as the New York Times, Parade, People, The Los Angeles Times, the Sunday London Telegraph and Entertainment Weekly. Each of the members of The 5 Browns attended New York’s Julliard School, becoming the first family of five siblings ever accepted simultaneously. The New York Post has proclaimed; “One family, five pianos and 50 fingers add up to the biggest classical music sensation in years.” The 5 Browns are managed by IMG artists, and are exclusively Steinway Artists. - What: The Man Who Came To Dinner
- When: Thursday-Sunday, October 25-28 and November 1-3. Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 2pm and 7:30pm, and Sundays at 2pm.

- About: The Reverie Actors Company presents the brilliantly witty madcap comedy, The Man Who Came to Dinner. Filled with fascinating character roles and winking homage to the intellectual and popular culture of the 1930s, this beloved American classic features a famous houseguest who quickly wears out his welcome by wreaking havoc in the lives of his hosts.
- What: A Trustworthy Choir Concert
- When: Sunday, November 4 at 7pm

- About: Join the LBC Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorus for an evening of beautiful choral music uniquely curated for the Trust’s amazing acoustics. The concert will feature Britten’s Ceremony of Carols and Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices.
- What: Forum – Pennsylvania Germans: The Original Immigrants

- About: The PA Dutch culture is pervasive in Lancaster County. Did you notice? You may wonder why Lank-iss-tur is a thing. You may be a descendant yourself if your name is anything like Martin. You may be a different kind of immigrant. So, who were these dreamers who settled our fertile lands? Who are the PA Dutch now? And what, pray tell, is scrapple? Join us for an enlightening evening, complete with a scrapple tasting and all the glorious aroma that goes with that!
- What: The Durang Dance Collective Presents A-Y Dancers
- When: Saturday, November 17 at 7:30pm and Sunday, November 18 at 2pm

- About: A-Y/dancers is an exciting new repertory dance company based in New York’s Hudson Valley. Their program features three choreographers who represent the past, present and future of American concert dance. The program begins with a collage of solos, trios, and quartets by Merce Cunningham, one of the most celebrated choreographers of the 20th century. The second work is Doug Varone’s critically acclaimed 2003 work, “Of the Earth Far Below” a dynamic group dance featuring a cast of eight dancers against Steve Reich’s “Triple Quartet”. Completing the program will be a work by a Lancaster choreographer selected from the Durang Dance Collective’s choreographer’s showcase.
- What: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe

- About: The Trust presents a unique adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s beloved story in which all the roles are performed by two actors. This amazing 45-minute adaptation was created by renowned Broadway actress le Clanché du Rand and toured by the Lincoln Center. Join the Pevensie children in their fantastic journey through the wardrobe where they meet all of your favorite characters from Narnia. It’s the perfect family outing to prepare for the Holiday season!

- About: Grammy award winners, The King’s Singers, celebrating their 50th Season, make their Trust debut this Christmas! This world-renowned British a cappella vocal ensemble is acclaimed for their life affirming virtuosity and irresistible charm. Don’t miss your opportunity to see The King’s Singers in the heart of Lancaster, Pennsylvania this Christmas.
- What: Forum – American Exceptionalism?

- About: Is American so exceptional? What’s the origin of this vision? Has it been helpful? What are its pitfalls? Join us for a civil and spirited discussion of the religious and cultural roots of the USA’s sense of self. Yes, this event will be about politics but not be political in the Red/Blue sense. Let’s do something exceptional: Let’s learn, listen, and talk with civility. Wow, what a concept! Dan Spanjer is Chair of the Arts and Sciences Department and Professor of History at Lancaster Bible College. He earned his PhD at The University of Albany, SUNY and is a popular professor, effective teacher, and engaging presenter. He founded the Alcuin Society, a scholarly organization serving faculty.

- What: We The People: Dream Warriors – Taking Flight, Being Grounded – Kristin Hill

- About: A dynamic performance that will encompass everything from spoken word to Hoop Dance. Dream Warriors, founded by Tanaya Winder, is a collective of indigenous artists from New Mexico who believe in pursuing passions, dreams and gifts to better loved ones and communities while also uplifting others.

- About: New York City trombonist-vocalist, Seth Weaver, will present an evening of original music from his debut big band recording project Truth due for release spring of 2019. Inspired by the incredible cultural exchange and unique experiences of living in NYC, Seth’s original compositions are influenced equally by Afro-Cuban flavor, the Hudson River and the unique ice crystals seen from his Harlem apartment window in winter. Seth will also feature music from Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra and others.

- About: Emmy Award-winning and Broadway veteran actress Elaine Bromka stars in this one-woman show about life and love in the White House as told by Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon and Betty Ford. Particularly pertinent in an era of heightened politics, Tea for Three highlights the important role these three First Ladies played in humanizing the political scene – a story both whimsical and deeply moving.

- About: From Washington D.C., Newmyer Flyers brings top entertainers to present the wondrous songs of Bacharach & David. Go back in time with 60s and 70s hit singles including “I Say a Little Prayer,” “Walk on By,” “Do You Know the Way to San Jose,” “Alfie,” “The Look of Love” and “What the World Needs Now,” expertly delivered by Julia Nixon, a Broadway veteran (Dreamgirls) and one of D.C.’s finest and most popular singers for more than 30 years. - About: Tyrus is Pamela Tom’s tour-de-force documentary about Guangzhou-born, American artist Tyrus Wong his breathtaking scope of work across multiple artistic mediums, and his personal and professional journey navigating racial bigotry in 20th century America. Weaving together images of his work, archival footage, interviews and commentary from the artist himself, the film captures how Wong’s unique style helped shape the Disney animated film, Bambi (1942) and established a signature style of animation in early Hollywood. Running time: 78 minutes.

- About: A one-woman show that explores the nature of memory, stories and the creative spirit. Where do stories come from? How do they live? Exploring both the personal and universal, Alonely connects the lines between, around, over, under and about memory, imagination, identity and what it means to create in a world full of distraction.

- About: Following the critically acclaimed release of the 2015 recording I’ll Be Home for Christmas, pianist Fred Hughes brings his hard-charging trio to town to swing you into some holiday cheer. Originating in the jazz clubs of Washington, DC., the trio that includes bassist Amy Shook and drummer Frank Russo, has been performing, recording and presenting clinics and workshops since 1989 and brings over three decades of musical experience to the stage.

- About: Formerly the Red Rose City Chorus, the Vocal Harmonix Chorus is an all-female singing group affiliated with Sweet Adelines International. Their new name reflects the evolving direction of this dynamic group. They will be joined by the all-male Red Rose Chorus (both led by director Lori Jo Whitehaus) and guest quartets for their family-friendly festive celebration. Believe! will feature holiday favorites including “O Holy Night” and “The Secret of Christmas.” A full-cast ensemble will close the show in eight-part harmony. Co-presented with Vocal Harmonix.

- About: Formed in 1956, the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, directed by Nick Hilscher, is the most popular and sought after big band in the world today for both concert and swing dance engagements. - About: Enjoy an original adaptation of Charles Dickens’ timeless holiday classic! Based word-for-word on Dickens’ masterpiece and featuring original songs, A Christmas Carol is a faithful rendition of this enduring tale of redemption, charity and the true spirit of Christmas – a fun-for-the-whole family, fantastical journey through Christmas Past, Present and Future! Co-presented with Servant Stage Company. There will be special pre-show Family Fun Fest activities for kids starting at 2pm on Saturday, December 15 before the 3pm show.

- What: Artist Talk – Maria Dumlao, Mosaic Project Artist

- About: Maria Dumlao, one of the 2018 PCA&D Mosaic Project artists, a visual artist working in various combined media, including film, video, sound, photography, and installation, was born in the Philippines and immigrated to the USA with her family. She received a BA in Studio Art & Art History from Rutgers College and a MFA in Studio Art at Hunter College-CUNY. Dumlao is currently an Associate Professor at Bucks County Community College. Since moving to Philadelphia in 2009, Dumlao has been involved in artist collectives including Vox Populi, where she is currently an artist member. Her recent work explores individual and collective history as viewed through lenses of history, popular culture, mythic folklore, landscapes, and creatures, and proposes alternatives to the systemic representations ordered by colonial narratives.

- About: Kaitie Trout graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design in 2014. After graduation she moved to New York City to attend the MFA Design: The Designer as Author & Entrepreneur program at the School of Visual Arts where she created and pitched a design-driven venture. Shortly after earning her Master’s degree in Design Trout, became a designer at Snapchat on the Sponsored Ad Product side where she created holistic campaigns for clients like Hollister, Maltesers, Heineken, Champions League, Under Armour and many others looking to utilize Snapchat’s unique ad platform. She also led the design for Sponsored Ad Products for the 2018 Winter Olympics on Snapchat and was responsible for creating the narrative used to pitch the Olympics Package on Snapchat to advertisers. Trout now works as a Senior Designer at Ceros, a technology company which created a platform that gives designers and marketers the power to create, publish and analyze stunning interactive content for the web without writing a single line of code. Additionally, she is the New York City Brand Lead and Ambassador for all-natural sweetener company, The Base, which has a presence at Smorgasburg in NYC and Los Angeles and debuted at Coachella this year. - About: A. D. Coleman has published 8 books and more than 2500 essays on photography and related subjects. Formerly a columnist for the Village Voice, theNew York Times, and the New York Observer, Coleman has contributed to such periodicals as ARTnews, Art On Paper, and Technology Review. His syndicated essays on mass media, new communication technologies, art, and photography have been featured in such periodicals as Juliet Art Magazine (Italy), European Photography (Germany), and Art Today (China). His work has been translated into 21 languages and published in 31 countries.
