Spectacular Films From The Red Rose Film Festival

Calling all movie buffs—save the date for November 1st through the 3rd. Lancaster will host the first-ever Red Rose Film Festival! With hundreds of entries that were narrowed down and chosen by a team of experts, the film submissions will be shown in multiple theaters throughout Lancaster City. Make sure you check out showtimes and theatre independent films that recognize and place emphasis on global cultures, perspectives, and visions. By adhering to their core goals and recognizing the power that the arts have on the community. The film festival is planning to better serve our City of Lancaster and the arts within it.

Our little city has such a rich history and is heavily immersed in the arts, making it the perfect spot to host a festival such as this one. Ryan Shank, the Executive Director, and Ian Long the Creative Director of RRFF met in 2015 while working together at the U.S. Women’s Open in Lancaster. From this new friendship, the film festival was born! 

Their long-term goal is to have the festival be a place to promote and advance Central Pennsylvania as a premier film destination for future productions—definitely exciting news for the arts community of Lancaster. 

Many of the films submitted to the festival are highly rated, poignant with their plots, and extremely creative when it comes to cinematography. Some tugged at the heart while others startled the viewer, and some were dramatic and gripping. Each one was scripted and shot in their own unique way.

After So Many Days: This film depicts newlywed musicians who made a pact to play live shows every day for a year. With venues ranging from gas stations to concerts—this film is sure to capture your heart and make you believe in love. 

Raising Buchanan: This quirky and fascinating film tells the story of a desperate woman who steals the corpse of President James Buchanan in hopes of obtaining a large ransom. Combining dark humor and a lively plot, this one is surely not to be missed.

Tattooed Heart: In this gripping short, a creative writing instructor at a detention center finds herself drawn to a troubled student. Complications arise when the instructor finds herself in danger—just for choosing to help.

Temple: A documentary told through multiple personal perspectives about the forced changes to Philadelphia following Temple University’s expansion.
