Treat yourself to customized skincare treatments from Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health’s Cosmetic Services

From laser therapy and light treatments to peels and microneedling, your skin can be ready for all that's ahead.

With fall right around the corner, it’s time to think about investing in your skin to help you look and feel your best so you’re ready for your upcoming social events leading up to the holidays.

Medical Aesthetician Christy Gladfelter, head of Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health’s Skin Care Team, is here to guide you towards the goals you have for your skin, especially as the seasons change.

“Many people come out of summer with duller, dehydrated skin from all the sun exposure,” Christy shared. “The injections, fillers, and laser treatments we offer really help get your skin healthy again.”

At the forefront of these treatments is the HALO® laser, which is exclusively located regionally at the Suburban Pavilion outpatient facility at LG Health’s Harrisburg Pike campus. HALO® is a hybrid fractionated treatment, creating tiny channels of the skin and taking a fraction away rather than full ablation. It uses two different wavelengths to target the outermost and middle layers of your skin, restoring a healthy glow and youthfulness. This is considered the top-of-the-line laser, offering great results with minimal downtime compared to other resurfacing lasers.

The laser treatment is a powerful tool that can target fine lines, pore size, sun damage, pigment, and even acne scarring. Christy suggests combining HALO®  with their BroadBand Light (BBL) treatment for better results.

“The HALO® produces stunning results for patients that really lasts,” she said. “With proper medical-grade skincare and daily sunscreen, of course.”

Because the tool is so customizable, patients work closely with Christy to first determine a care plan and how invasive the treatment needs to be. She also uses this consultation time to debunk many misconceptions they may have, including pain and downtime.

“As for any potential discomfort, we work with patients to make sure they are comfortable by using a topical numbing cream before procedures and a skin cooling device, which blows cold air onto the skin during treatment,” she explained. “People also hear ‘laser’ and think that means you will be out of commission for weeks and weeks on end, but your skin actually starts to heal within five to seven days.”

That five to seven days is also the window Christy encourages patients to consider when scheduling a treatment to get that signature HALO® glow, especially as you prepare for big fall and holiday events.

In addition to the HALO® and BBL treatments, she may also recommend chemical peels, microdermabrasion, microneedling, or a combination of these treatments.

Whatever your skin concerns may be, Christy and the entire Cosmetic Services team at LG Health will help you safely enhance your appearance and achieve natural-looking results that work for you.
