On view March 6th-April 25th Jeff Geib: Book of Falling Leaves Relationships form in the presence of company. The moment one becomes two. Almost immediately, similarities, parallels, and coincidences are discovered where other connections take more time to build or be seen. This is an exhibition about the influence that proximity, intention, and chance have when you agree to “play” and open yourself to conversation in its many forms. Artist Jeff Geib encourages you to move the cards on these walls. Orchestrate new connections and share your findings with the person next to you, or quietly celebrate the event that just unfolded. It’s in these cards that you can discover a way of looking that expands beyond the gallery and into your everyday life. If you are willing to invest the time to see how one card informs the next, only to potentially wipe the slate clean with a new arrival, you possess an amazing ability to understand and connect deeply to the world around you. The nature of cards requires their handling, they are made to be held. It’s in the “shuffle” that chance has the opportunity to yield delightful unions. The anticipation of what card will be drawn next, constructing the collected hand. Revelations of sameness in images, figures, symbols, and colors that in most cases have little to no chance of being brought together is endlessly thrilling. Every aspect of the cards in this stunningly vast collection has been manipulated by hand in some way. Either drawn entirely, collaged, or recolored, Jeff has paid attention to each of them. Build your hand, draw or discard as often as you like. These cards are not meant to tell the future, or be signs from the universe. They are designed to afford you the opportunity to be surprised, expand your observational aperture, and recognize individuality in uniformity. Your interaction is what allows these cards to converse.
