Opening of the River Pathway Connections Outdoor Community Classroom at Buchanan Park
September 20 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Thanks to the Lancaster County Community Foundation and Lancaster Clean Water Partners the Outdoor Community Classroom at Buchanan Park officially opens on Saturday, September 20th at 10 am with activities for inquisitive students of all ages. Let art, science and your own curiosity connect you to the wonders of nature right in your own backyard. Try your hand at mushrooming or nature journaling during presentations in the new Learning Circle. Discover the benefits of our urban trees using the amazing iTree tool to estimate carbon sequestration and stormwater capture at the new Wonder of Trees educational sign . Add your touch to a collective art project and get the scoop on why bugs really matter. Meet artists, environmentalists, scientists, poets and your neighbors as we celebrate this new community space, while learning our role in protecting our natural resources. What to expect: Over twenty local organizations from the Lancaster Conservancy to the Lancaster STEM Alliance, will participate in interactive demonstrations that will offer insight and solutions to environmental concerns within an urban setting, as well as art and poetry that help creatively express our close relationship to nature. Visit our five curiosity stations, Urban Meadow Magic, the Rain Garden, Composting – the Food We Breathe, The Wonder of Trees, and the Street Tree Arboretum, plus our artful Stormwater Murals, to learn how we can strengthen our community by caring for our environment. So join us and feel free to: Touch the bark, leaves, flowers and soil. Sketch or write down what you see, hear and feel. Observe, predict, compare and contrast. And discover why the air and water we depend on depend on us too. The River Pathways Outdoor Community Classroom at Buchanan Park is made possible by the generosity of the Lancaster County Community Foundation and Lancaster Clean Water Partners. This project would not have been possible without the support of the City of Lancaster, F&M College, Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Lancaster Compost Cooperative, Chesapeake Water Initiative, the College Park Climate Action Neighborhood and RegenAll.
