PDF@Zoetropolis Presents: 🎬 Daughters of the Dust (1991) 📅 Thursday, February 19 ⏰ 6:30 PM
As part of our America 250 Film Series and Black History Month, join us for a screening of Daughters of the Dust, Julie Dash’s landmark and lyrical film about ancestry, memory, and belonging. Set in 1902 among the Gullah Geechee community of the Sea Islands, Daughters of the Dust tells a story rarely centered in American cinema—one shaped not by conquest or expansion, but by kinship, ritual, and the fragile work of carrying a culture forward. Moving between past, present, and future, the film invites us to rethink what counts as history, whose stories ground the nation, and what is at stake when communities enter modern America.
The evening will include: • a brief pre-screening introduction • the full screening • a post-film discussion open to all • a specialty cocktail crafted with Lancaster Distilleries spirits, inspired by the film No prior philosophical background required—just curiosity and a willingness to watch closely. 🎟️ Seating is limited. Advance tickets recommended.
