Dan Sahd of Sahd Metal Recycling is part of a Lancaster legacy
As a third-generation business owner, Dan prioritizes investing in his people.
Dan Sahd is a third-generation business owner, whose commitment to both people and environment has empowered Sahd Metal Recycling to remain a leader in the local community.
Alongside his cousin and business partner Michael, Dan is inspired by the drive his grandfather and Lebanese immigrant Frank Sahd harnessed to establish the family business in 1941.
When Dan joined the team in 2005, it was a true homecoming—accentuated by the sense of place found in multigenerational family businesses.
“I had worked at the business since I was seven, spending summers in the yard as I grew up,” he shared. “As I drive up to work every day to the house my dad grew up in, there’s an added responsibility to carry this on for the next generation,” he added. “It can be daunting, but I absolutely love it.”
Dan’s time in the corporate world gave him invaluable insights in structuring the company for long-term success. He also understands being nimble and prioritizing customer service are two things needed to set a small business apart, especially in Lancaster.
“To last 84 years in this community is a testament that we have served people and the environment well,” Dan said. “Small business can really thrive here in Lancaster because we put a premium on quality of ser vice and meaningful relationships.”
Today, Dan describes the business as a people development company that happens to recycle metal. The leadership team at Sahd supports the nearly two dozen employees by empowering them to invest in their own professional development by attending career events through the Chamber, the High Center, and other local opportunities.
“Michael and I really see ourselves as caretakers of a legacy,” Dan said. “The real legacy isn’t the name on our building, but the people whose careers are being built here.”
