Looking to drink beer on a barstool beside a local and find out what a Lancastrian is really like? We visited a few of Lancaster City’s neighborhood hangs where the conversation is colorful, the beer is always cold, the character is cooked in, and the pretentiousness is left at the door. Here are a few of our favorites:
Stubby’s Bar & Grille, 245 East Frederick Street
Open until 2 AM
A sports bar known for their cheesesteaks and wings, it’s a great place to chill out and watch the game.

American Bar & Grill, 1081 North Plum Street
Open until 2:30 AM
This mainstay tavern offers a pub grub menu, including wings and oysters, plus live music if you get lucky.
Valentino’s, 132 Rider Avenue
Open until 2 AM
“Where good friends meet” as their motto, this 4th generation family business was started by an Italian immigrant in 1937. Valentino’s is known for their Italian specialties and, of course, their wide variety of beer on tap.
Shamrock Cafe, 312 West Walnut Street
Open until 12 AM
A neighborhood bar on the west side of town, this Walnut Street bar is known for its warm hospitality and killer Bloody Marys.
